Algol Technics to supply automated anode maintenance line to Boliden Kokkola

Press Release 28.10.2019

Algol Technics and Boliden Kokkola have signed an agreement for the delivery of an automated anode maintenance line. The project is scheduled for completion in early 2021. The parties have agreed not to publish price details.

Machine vision system at the heart of the delivery

Boliden Kokkola produces metallic zinc in an electrolytic process in which zinc is deposited on the surface of cathode electrodes by an electric current.

The anode electrodes must be removed periodically from the electrolytic process tank for maintenance and cleaning. This process already utilises automated lifting equipment supplied by Algol Technics.

“The solution we are supplying will also handle the movement of plates between the different stages of the process. At the heart of the entire delivery is a machine vision system that inspects the condition of the plates and whether they need to be repaired or replaced by new ones. The system then returns the same number of plates to the tank that were removed for inspection,” explains Teemu Rantala, Head of Sales, Algol Technics.
