Algol renews Rautaruukki´s crane fleet in Raahe

Algol System Demag technology was recently harnessed to perform impressive
feats in the Finnish town Raahe, where the representatives of the Materials
Handling Division signed an agreement on a crane project at Rautaruukki´s steel
plant. The project includes the delivery of two new cranes and the
modernization of three existing cranes by autumn 2004.

According to project supervisor Ilkka Petäjistö, the cranes will be put to
exceptionally demanding use. Process cranes employed in steel production must
move at great speed and be absolutely reliable in an environment where
workloads are heavy and their temperature can rise to hundreds of degrees
Celsius. The entire planning work was done at Algol´s Materials Handling
Division.

The crane types vary from double-girder overhead travelling cranes to half
gantry cranes and their lifting equipment ranges from magnets to clamps. The
FEM duty class of all the cranes is M8. Maximum load capacities exceed 40 tons
and maximum speed reaches 150 metres a minute. The cranes will be equipped with
air-conditioned, ergonomically fitted driver cabs.
