Yamarin boats built with the help of Algol lifting technology
Nine Demag KBK crane systems have been installed at Fenix Marins new boat
plant in Valkeakoski, Finland. The new lifting equipment is used to help
manufacture Yamarin recreational boats. Attached to the ceiling of the factory,
the cranes lift, transfer and position boat parts throughout the entire
manufacturing process. This begins with removing the reinforced plastic hulls
from their moulds, continues with lamination and gluing, and ends with fitting
equipment and finishing details. The lifting systems were designed, delivered
and installed by Algol Technics.
According to Jari Taavitsainen, Chairman of Fenix Marin, his company chose the
Demag KBK crane system due to its practicality. The KBK systems are lightweight
and precise, they can handle a broad range of tasks, and attached to the
ceiling they save floor space.
All nine systems consist of double girder overhead cranes with electric chain
hoists. The movements of the lifting carriage and trolley are controlled by
hand. According to Seppo Andersson, Product Manager at Algol Technics Material
Handling Unit, the customer found the solution to be the best for the
labour-intensive and precise work required in the manufacturing processes in
the factory. Each system unit can lift 1000 kilos. The length of the bridge is
7 metres and the carriage 25 metres. There are two lifting speeds: 9 metres and
2 metres per minute.
Fenix Marin Oy is a Finnish company specialised in the production of Yamarin
boats and acts as a subcontractor for Konekesko Oy. Fenix Marin manufactures
ten types of boat ranging from 4 to 6 metres in length. The majority of
production is exported to other Nordic countries and Central Europe.
