Six cranes to be delivered to China for copper production processes

Algol Technics will manufacture and Outokumpu Technology Oy supply the
automation for a total order of six heavy cranes that will be delivered this
year to three copper factories in China. The first of the cranes will depart
for the Port of Helsinki on 3 February, where it will shipped to Shanghai via
Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

The cranes will be used in China as process cranes in the electrolysis plants
of factories located in Yanggu, Guixi and Tongling. Sales Manager Ilkka
Petäjistö of Algol Technics´Materials Handling Unit says that the Chinese
customers Yanggu Xiangguang Copper Co, Jiangxi Copper Company Ltd. and JinLong
Copper Co Lltd. will be supplied with cranes that represent the latest
technology and that have been designed especially for their intended use. The
cranes have entirely been designed by Algol Technics in Finland.

All six cranes represent similar double-beam Algol System Demag overhead
travelling cranes with a span of 31.5 metres. They are equipped with four
lifting hooks, giving them a total lifting capacity of 32 tonnes, and with an
auxiliary hoist. The bridge can move at 150 metres per minute. The operations
of the automated cranes are monitored from an ergonomic, air-conditioned cab.

The cranes will operate continuously in their factories in double shifts.
Technology Sales Manager Erkki Ylimäki from Outokumpu Technology says that the
automation for the cranes has been integrated into the material transfer and
handling system for heavy loads, emphasising especially the speed of material
movements in continuous processes. Special demands are created by the
relatively high humidity of the air in the factories, the temperatures, and the
typically corrosive atmosphere within electrolysis plants. Close consideration
has been paid to stress factors in terms of work safety, as well as in the
choice of the surface handling and component materials for the cranes.

The cranes are being manufactured in Algol Technics´factory in Helsinki. Sales
Manager Ilkka Petäjistö and Product Manager Juha Rehakka are responsible for
the commercial side of the project, while Markus Kalkkila and Petri Saukkoriipi
are responsible for the project engineering.
