Half a century of co-operation between Algol and Dow
Algol and the Dow Chemical Company, a leading producer of industrial chemicals
and plastic raw materials in the world, have been co-operating on the Finnish
market for exactly half a century now. To celebrate the milestone year, the
corporate management of both companies recently held a meeting in Finland. Dow
was represented by Michael D. Parker, President and CEO; Luciano Respini,
President Dow Europe; Geoff Dann, General Manager UK and Nordic, and Horacio
Percossi, Director of Sales and Marketing, Industrial and Performance Chemicals.
The co-operation agreement was signed by the companies in October 1952.
According to that document, Algol was appointed as "the authorized sales
representative in Finland for the sale of products produced by the Dow Chemical
Company or affiliated companies, --- and specifically listed below". The sales
representation, which was originally operated on an agency basis, was turned
into co-operating in distribution in 1980, when Dow established its own sales
office in Finland. At present, Algol´s Chemical Division is the main
distributor of industrial chemicals and plastic raw materials produced by Dow
on the Finnish market, and the distribution area of the products has been
extended to the Baltic states and Russia.
Dow is a leading science and technology company that provides innovative
chemical, plastic and agricultural products and services to many essential
consumer markets. With annual sales of 28 billion dollars, Dow serves customers
in more than 170 countries and a wide range of markets that are vital to human
progress, including food, transportation, health and medicine, personal and
home care, and building and construction, among others. Committed to the
principles of Sustainable Development, Dow and its approximately 50,000
employees seek to balance economic, environmental and social
responsibilities.
