Algol to deliver extensive conveyor system to Karjaportti´s new food plant
Algol´s Materials Handling Division is to deliver an automated conveyor system
to the dispatch department at Karjaportti´s new food plant in the town of
Mikkeli. The contract is worth over two million euros.
The conveyor system is an extensive and multi-part entity which takes food
products packed in bar-coded plastic boxes from the plant´s production lines to
intermediate warehousing or delivery. In the overall system, vertical
conveyors, belt conveyors, roller tracks, transfer cars, box pilers, box
turners, sorters, bar code readers and individual special devices operate
between and across three floors. The entity ties in with the plant´s control
system integrated into the order system, which routes the progress of the boxes
and defines their correct transfer order and timing. The capacity of the
conveyor system is 1500 plastic boxes per hour.
Algol has designed the system by putting the new plant´s space dimensions to
optimum use and by taking the industry´s stringent hygiene requirements into
account. Finnish design is backed up by the world-renowned German Demag
technology. The entity is due to be delivered to the customer in early spring
2003.
Karjaportti is one of the leading producers of meat and processed meat products
in Finland with an annual turnover of 140 million euros.
