Algol Pharma to represent the new Astellas Pharma company
Algol Pharma will be the representative of the newly established international
pharmaceuticals company Astellas Pharma in Finland and the Baltic countries.
Astellas Pharma was formed by the recent merger between Japanese companies
Yamanouchi Pharmaceuticals and Fujisawa Pharmaceuticals. The turnover of the
new company is around USD 8 billion, making it the 15th biggest pharmaceuticals
manufacturer in the world.
Algol has represented Yamanouchi Pharma and the Brocades companies that
preceded it already for over 50 years. According to Country Manager Hannu
Huuhka at Algol Pharma, the merger between Yamanouchi and Fujisawa will create
positive synergies, especially in research and development. The product lines
that are being combined by the merger also complement each other naturally
without overlapping.
Astellas Pharma manufactures prescription pharmaceuticals specialising in
urology, immunology and dermatology. Corporate headquarters are in Tokyo, while
operations are global. In Europe alone the company has a sales organisation in
22 countries. The total number of personnel is around 17 000.
Following the merger, a new Astellas Pharma team has been formed within Algol
Pharma. In Finland this team consists of the former Yamanouchi group supported
by two experts from the sales office that Fujisawa has had in Finland. In the
Baltic countries, Astellas Pharma operations are developed by local Product
Managers.
