New innovative equipment for studying tissue samples

The largest pathological laboratory in Finland, HUSLAB, has purchased new
equipment for its facilities in Meilahti, Helsinki for studying tissue samples.
The technology and performance of the new equipment represents a new innovation
in laboratory diagnostics for clinical pathology. The new process provides
patient diagnoses up to a week faster than traditional methods. The equipment
is manufactured by the international company Sakura and was delivered and
installed by Algol Pharma’s Diagnostics group.

The Tissue-Tek XPress is a continuous rapid tissue processor that achieves new
levels of speed in processing, with an hourly throughput of up to 120
specimens. The equipment can provide individual diagnoses of tissue samples
even on the same day as the sample was taken.

The equipment uses innovative low-wattage microwave technology, the low energy
levels and consistent heat of which allow different types of tissue samples to
be handled simultaneously while guaranteeing consistent results.
Molecular-friendly reagents are also used to improve the precision of the
results. The consistency of these reagents is friendly to the operating
environment and their consumption must smaller than in traditional methods.

According to Sales Manager Jukka Puomio of Algol Pharma’s Diagnostics group,
the new equipment enhances all areas of tissue sample research. The continuity
and speed of the process increase productivity within the laboratory by
facilitating the research process and making workloads more manageable. The
pathologist can continue to study the tissue samples under microscope
immediately after processing and without any additional procedures. As a
result, doctors receive precise and reliable diagnoses fast for their patients
and can proceed to the necessary steps of treatment without delay.
