Algol Technics to install new mail sorting equipment in Finland

Finnish postal services company Itella is modernising its letter sorting
equipment in four locations in Finland. Itella´s partner in this project ist
Algol Technics, which is responsible for installing the new equipment and
maintaining it during the start-up phase. The equipment is manufactured by
French company Solystic.

Algol Technics recently began installation work at the first location in
Helsinki, from which the process will be extended to Tampere, Kuopio and Oulu.
The new equipment at all four post centres will be installed by the end of
2009. Product Manager Jari Rantala from Algol Technics´Operational Reliability
Services unit is responsible for the installations.

According to Marko Väänänen, head of the Operational Reliability Services unit,
the new equipment will offer new levels of letter sorting efficiency. Itella is
adopting a unified sorting network in which the recognition and sorting of
letters are handled primarily using the video coding properties of the new
equipment.
